Amane Resort Seikai stands along the coastline of Beppu, offering hot spring baths and guest rooms so close to the sea that they seem like a very part of the marine panorama. Immersed in the beauty of the Beppu Bay, you can enjoy a retreat paced by the beat of the waves and feel a sense of togetherness with nature.
Unwind at an Onsen Resort Floating on the Surface of the Sea
We had a taste of Seikai’s connection with the sea from the moment we checked in. Guided by the staff, we started our stay with a welcome drink at the resort’s magnificent Terrace Bar Voyage which appeared as if it was peacefully floating on water. Sipping a refreshing local specialty, some kabosu citrus juice, we could take in the beauty of the surrounding scenery and the splendid work of architecture that beautifully complemented it.
Superior twin
To accommodate everyone’s needs, Seikai has 14 different types of refined rooms. Rooms in the “Hare no To” wing are characterized by their spaciousness, while the “Hare no To Tenbo” wing boasts detached-style rooms. Guests can also choose between the “Umi no To” wing where rooms focus on modern design and functionality and the “Sora no To” wing which has a resort-like atmosphere. Each room comes with its own private open-air onsen bath, sofas, and terraces overlooking the bay.
The two sumptuous guest rooms we got to experience, a superior twin room and a junior suite, made our onsen retreat in the midst of the sea even more special.
With its 65 square meters, the superior twin room came complete with a private onsen bath suspended over water (pictured above), a cozy terrace with outdoor armchairs, and a daybed by the window where we idled the hours away. The room was so close to the sea that we soon fell asleep to the lulling sound of the waves and woke up to the sight of the sea tinted in the hues of a spectacular sunrise.
No less exceptional was the junior suite (pictured above) which is also one of Seikai’s flagship rooms. The junior suite extends just a few meters away from the shoreline. It is so spacious that when we stepped onto its 150 square meters, we felt compelled to explore its intriguing ensemble of rooms, large terraces, and onsen baths. It almost felt like a mini adventure!
With window walls that let the beauty of the sea in, two bedrooms, a spacious living room, and even a kitchen, this room promises an unforgettable trip with family and friends. But the comforts don’t end there. The suite’s true charms reside in its private onsen facilities: a pool (pictured above), a jacuzzi, and an open-air bath which are all supplied with Seikai’s luxurious hot spring water.
We particularly appreciated the terrace with the pool as it was the area of the room where we felt that our contact with the sea was the deepest.
Feast on a Locally-Sourced Seafood Banquet With Ocean Views
The whole resort, including its dining spaces, felt as though they were completely immersed in the serene presence of the sea. Eitaro, Seikai’s restaurant specializing in seafood, was perfect for tasting a variety of delicacies from Oita Prefecture without having to renounce the enthralling sights of the sea.
Dinner was a full course of kaiseki, a traditional type of Japanese cuisine consisting of multiple sophisticated dishes and tasteful arrangements. Emphasis is given to fresh, local ingredients selected according to the season to guarantee the finest taste possible.
We savored delightful servings of delicate sashimi, flavorful portions of tempura garnished with matcha salt, and enjoyable conversations sparked from the relaxing atmosphere of the restaurant.
We were particularly impressed with the meat plate, which had a masterfully cooked steak with vegetables.
Appreciate the Marvels of the Sea and Hot Springs at Seikai’s Sea-Level Onsen Baths

At Amane Resort Seikai, alluring views of the sea await at every corner. Those seen from the resort’s communal baths are especially a sight to behold.
Just a few steps away from the sea, so close you can almost touch the water, we plunged into the wonders of the Shiosai no Yu, also nicknamed the “onsen at zero meters above sea level” due to its astounding proximity to the sea. This hot spring inspired by the sound of the waves, which we abandoned ourselves to, splendidly framed the bay as if it was a painting.
On the eighth floor you’ll find the Shoyo no Yu, a terrace hot spring with a 180-degree view of the sea below. Sunrises and moonlit nights are bewitching when observed by the comfort of its panoramic bath.
